
We strive to assist families in need within our community in a respectful and dignified manner. Our goal is to provide the assistance needed to enable our clients to move toward self-sufficiency. Currently, we distribute food through the Food Pantry to more than 245 households on a regular basis, in addition to providing clothes through our Clothing Room.

We provide a fully stocked pantry from which families may select groceries twice a month. Clients can choose from a large variety of fresh breads, canned goods, frozen items, pastas, desserts and beverages. The pantry distributes more than 250,000 pounds of food per year. Emergency food is available for families and individuals by calling the Program Director.

SHIM also provides its clients with a Clothing Room stocked with quality men's, women's and children's apparel, as well as small household items. The Clothing Room is free of charge to all clients.

South Hills Interfaith Ministries is an application site for the Dollar Energy Fund, a one-time grant assistance program for individuals who need financial help with utility bills. Currently, only applications are being taken for individuals who have had their utility service terminated or have a shut off notice. To be pre-screened for this service, call 412-854-9120 ext. 19 and leave a message. Your call will be returned within 24 hours. This program is open to all Pennsylvania residents.

This program is designed to prepare children for the upcoming school year and provide an enthusiastic start. In August, SHIM hosts the annual “Back to School” program. We provide new backpacks and school supplies, for all youth that we serve through our food pantry or school based programs.

This program allows certified families the opportunity to choose gifts for their loved ones living in their household during the holiday season. Clients are encouraged to bring their children to select gifts. All households registered on the Family Assistance list as of November 1 are eligible to participate.
