Tracey and Roy have bright eyes, warm smiles, and beautiful children. They live in a South Hills neighborhood with their three boys: Christian (11), Carson (8), and Collin (2). The older boys love skateboards and baseball and the family enjoys watching movies and playing monopoly together.
On this cold and rainy Friday afternoon, Tracey and Roy are picking up groceries at the SHIM Food Pantry with two-year-old Collin, while the older boys are in school…

This year, we were fortunate enough to receive over 1,200 coats. We distributed more than 600 to our clients and were able to share the excess with other local non-profits. We are currently not accepting donations of coats – we’ve got more than enough! Thank you to everyone who contributed!!

Families who use SHIM’s Food Pantry are also able to “shop” in the Community Clothing Room, selecting donated clothing items for the members of their household. Donated clothing must be clean and free of rips, holes, etc. All sizes are welcome. We currently have a particular need for boys clothing (infant and youth). Clothing donations are accepted seasonally, as follows:
Spring/Summer – April 1 through August 31
Fall/Winter – September 1 through March 31

South Hills Interfaith Ministries would not be the agency it is today without the direct contribution of more than 300 volunteers who give their time and talents to our many programs. At SHIM, we have volunteer opportunities to meet everyone's needs, abilities and interests. Whether you're considering volunteering once a year or once a week, we have something for you. To become a SHIM volunteer or for more information, please call 412-854-9120.

In partnership with Goodwill Industries’ Youth Mentoring Program, we are launching a pilot mentoring program for middle and high school students at our Whitehall location. (Our programs there currently serve through 5th grade.) We need YOU to help us get started.
What you need to know:
- The participating students are all from refugee families.
- Each mentor will work with a group of approximately 4 students.
- Mentors may specify if they prefer to work with boys or girls and with middle or high school students.
Mentors must commit to one hour per week (Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday) between 6pm and 8pm through May.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Casey Rich at 412.885.0284.

While there are many ways in which an individual can support SHIM, one way that is commonly overlooked is through your estate planning. The federal estate tax can take a significant percentage out of one’s estate. With a little advance planning and professional guidance from an attorney or professional financial advisor, you can lessen the tax amount. Please consider a charitable bequest to SHIM in your will. Your gift will help ensure that the work of SHIM will continue.
